Sharing Local History

Echoes / Projects / Sharing Local History

Sharing Local History is a project being managed by The Five Communities Group, who represent five community history groups in Pembrokeshire: Coastlands (based in Dale), Hook, Llangwm, Pembroke & Monkton and Penally. The group is supported by PLANED, and is funded through Leader and the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

The two-year pilot project’s aims were to examine the collections in the possession of these local history groups. Collections include, for example, documents, photographs, artefacts and memorabilia.

Project staff were then to look at ways that those documents could be digitised and catalogued, in order to ensure that the content is preserved in the long-term, but also so that the material can be accessed by a wider audience, for the purposes of research, in the short term.

In February 2020, Project Officers Angela Jones and David Llewellyn attended the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historic Monuments of Wales’ conference, Digital Past 2020, read our blog about that, by clicking here.
